The ATH-R70xa is Audio-Technica's flagship professional open-back reference headphone. This upgraded version of the ATH-R70x offers the natural, balanced sound of its predecessor, with increased precision and detail for an immersive listening experience, accurate sound imaging, and remarkable depth.

The entirely open sound relies exclusively on the transducer's performance: every movement of the diaphragm is translated directly into sound, without relying on acoustic cavities or resonance for frequency amplification. While the ATH-R70x used damping and acoustic design to accentuate low frequencies, the ATH-R70xa delivers pure sound directly from the transducer, providing an authentic open experience and minimizing distortion. This ensures precise, natural sound with a realistic soundstage.

Designed for critical listening, the ATH-R70xa allows sound engineers to make the right decisions at every stage of production. Thanks to its extended bandwidth, every detail of a mix is reproduced with absolute transparency. Optimal airflow and the absence of internal resonance allow for an extremely fast transient response, ensuring the clarity and separation needed for the most complex modern mixes.

This ultra-lightweight (199g without cable), fully open-back headphone features a streamlined design and a new headband, making it virtually unnoticeable during use—ideal for long work sessions.

The ATH-R70xa is handcrafted at our Machida factory. Each unit is carefully assembled from in-house designed components and rigorously tested before leaving the factory.

Features

This professional open-back reference headphone offers the perfect balance of precision, transparency, and comfort for the most demanding sound engineers, producers, and musicians.

Its fully open design allows for optimal airflow, eliminating internal resonance and ensuring an extremely fast transient response.

Carbon composite resin improves structural rigidity for detailed transient response.

Its extended frequency response (5 – 40,000 Hz) ensures transparent and detailed reproduction.

Made in Japan: each headphone is carefully assembled from in-house components and rigorously tested before leaving our Tokyo factory.

Its ultra-lightweight design (199 g), metal-reinforced streamlined construction, redesigned headband, and replaceable velour ear pads provide unparalleled comfort for long work sessions.

Its unique 3 m (9.8') detachable, locking cable is independent of left and right signals for optimal stereo orientation.
