The Wampler Mofetta Overdrive/Distortion is my tribute to the MOSFET magic of a 1990s classic: the MT10 MOSTORTION™. A mainstay for countless top-tier studio musicians, the Mofetta honors the soul of this elusive but classic circuit while unlocking its untapped potential.
Think of the Mofetta as a supercharged, reborn, and amplified MOSTORTION™. I made sure it delivers the classic amp-like overdrive, massive headroom, and versatile 3-band EQ that made the original so famous. But I also wanted more and added a Texture Switch that introduces real MOSFETs into the pedal's overdrive section for a bolder, more articulate sound. The Mofetta preserves everything you love about the early 90s legend with a powerful new dimension.
The original MT10 MOSTORTION™ was released in 1990 as part of a budget-friendly series of pedals to meet the demands of a growing market. Despite the pedal's "cheaper" qualities, guitarists began to notice its low-gain, amp-like tones, attributing them (arguably incorrectly) to the onboard MOSFET op-amps. Although the pedals were discontinued a few years later, used units today sell for exorbitant prices and are extremely hard to find. The Mofetta is my way of setting things right and recreating those singing tones while diving even deeper into the amp-like world of MOSFETs.
