MEINL Percussion's darbukas are made in the tradition of the original esoteric goblet-shaped drums found in Eastern European, Middle Eastern and South Asian music. Our darbukas are constructed from thin shells of different metals, each metal giving the different models their particular timbre. The head is secured and tuned using external rings placed near the shell, in the Turkish manner. Lightweight but powerful, darbukas have deep, full bass. They are ideal for high-pitched clicking sounds as well as a wide range of articulate “doum” and “tak” hits.
