The Baggs AEG-1 electro-acoustic guitar is the culmination of a lifetime dedicated to high-performance acoustic amplification, drawing inspiration from the craftsmanship of a luthier. Our founder and master luthier, Lloyd Baggs, began his career as a guitar maker, crafting instruments for artists such as Ry Cooder, Jackson Browne, Graham Nash, and Janis Ian. His deep respect for the guitar led him to seek faithful amplification of his own instruments for the stage.
After years of studying the physics of acoustic instruments and pioneering advancements in pickups and electronics, the AEG-1 is the realization of all our expertise in acoustic sound and amplification. Lloyd’s dual expertise as both a luthier and a pickup designer allowed us to conceive a guitar and its electronics in perfect harmony, optimizing the system for this specific instrument. Thanks to its remarkable acoustic properties, we were able to amplify the AEG-1 with our most precise system to date: the revolutionary HiFi Duet. Featuring our award-winning HiFi bridge pickups and our studio-quality Silo microphone, the AEG-1 is versatile and adapts to every stage, from the most intimate to the largest.
The Story of the AEG-1
The patent-pending neck support system is the key to its exceptional acoustic performance. Traditionally, the top and back of thin-bodied acoustic guitars are oversized to support the neck, which compromises acoustic response. Our innovative approach allows the top and back to be tuned independently, without having to support the neck. The result is increased sensitivity and ideal acoustic response, all in an elegant and comfortable design.
Another advantage of this ultra-rigid neck support is that more string energy is transmitted to the soundboard, which expands the dynamic range, enriches tonal depth, and improves low-frequency response. This creates an acoustic depth, warmth, and richness previously unattainable in an electro-acoustic guitar.
HiFi Bridge Pickups
At the heart of the HiFi Duet are two bridge sensors that offer exceptional balance, tone, clarity, and dynamics, faithfully capturing the guitar's authentic sound. The design, materials, and precise shape of the pickups allow for a perfect balance between string vibration, body resonance, and feedback resistance, for an immediate and unprecedented user experience.
Silo Microphone
Machined from a solid block of aluminum and manufactured with precision, the Silo microphone brings studio-recording quality within your reach. Designed with controlled directivity, it functions as if it were placed outside the guitar, offering the openness and ambiance of a studio mic with excellent isolation and optimal feedback resistance. Its exceptional sound quality rivals that of your favorite studio microphones.
Multi-pole Filter System
The electronics incorporate a fully discrete studio preamp featuring a multi-pole filter system that ensures a seamless transition between the HiFi pickups and the Silo microphone, providing exceptional sound and feel regardless of mic position. This extremely versatile system allows for a wide palette of tones, ranging from a direct and natural sound to an open and airy one. As with all LR Baggs electronics, you will benefit from the same warmth, purity, low noise, and battery life that our circuits are known for. Side-mounted controls provide quick access to master volume, mic/mic mix, tone shaping, phase inversion, and a battery level indicator.
