The Les Paul Special, an upgraded version
The Gibson Les Paul™ Special was designed as an upgraded version of the Les Paul Junior. It is equipped with two P-90 pickups, compared to just one on the Junior, offering greater tonal flexibility. It also stands out with fretboard binding and a mother-of-pearl headstock logo, giving it superior visual appeal and creating an intermediate model between the Les Paul Standard and the Les Paul Junior. Launched in 1955 as a single-cutaway version, the Les Paul Special adopted a double-cutaway body in 1958, facilitating access to the higher frets. In 1960, a thinner SlimTaper™ neck profile and a lower positioning of the rhythm pickup improved neck stability and made the guitar easier to play than ever before.
Today, Epiphone is proud to present the Les Paul Special Double Cut Figured. It retains all the features that make the Les Paul Special such a pleasure to play and enhances its aesthetics. It features a double-cutaway mahogany body, typical of the Les Paul Special, topped with a magnificent AAA figured maple top. The top is also bound. The mahogany neck, with a fast and precise SlimTaper profile, is topped with a bound rosewood fingerboard, equipped with 22 medium jumbo frets and adorned with acrylic dot position markers. The headstock, inspired by 60s Kalamazoo designs, is equipped with Grover® Rotomatic® tuners and features the Epiphone logo inlaid in mother-of-pearl. The electronics are also different from most Les Paul Specials. Instead of the traditional P-90 single-coil pickups, the Les Paul Special Double Cut Figured is equipped with two Epiphone ProBucker™ humbuckers, known for their power: a ProBucker 2 in the neck position and a slightly more powerful ProBucker 3 in the bridge position for scorching solos. Each pickup has its own volume and tone control, as well as a three-way toggle switch for exceptional tonal control and versatility. The Les Paul Special Double Cut Figured comes in a premium gig bag to protect it while you're on the move.
