In 2024, we are once again going to defy the “norm” with the introduction of the SA-126 Special, Wolfgang Van Halen’s interpretation of what a modern 21st-century guitar should be.
The SA-126 is the very definition of innovation incarnate. It is a hybrid between a semi-hollow and a solid-body guitar: think of a chambered/center-block solid body blended with a bolt-on neck, then equipped with the features most frequently associated with high-performance guitar brands such as a thin neck, jumbo frets, and high-output pickups. A product of Wolfgang Van Halen’s imagination, the instrument was created with versatility in mind, striking the perfect balance between punchy rhythm tones and ultra-fast lead lines.
Here is a quick overview of the features.
The all-new SA-126 features a chambered mahogany body, with a basswood center block added for stability and tone. Topped with a maple top on solid finishes and quilted maple on transparent finishes with 5-ply body binding, this thing puts out “TONE.” The neck is a 22-fret, 12”-16” compound radius ebony fingerboard with jumbo frets and triple block inlays on a graphite-reinforced mahogany neck. With a 24 ¾” scale length… it feels like a modern classic that is familiar and comfortable. Finally, a spoke-wheel truss rod adjustment at the butt of the neck for easy, on-the-fly adjustments.
Introducing EVH SA-126 bridge and neck pickups created by Fender’s resident pickup designer, Tim Shaw, and the EVH team, they can handle just about anything you throw at them. From the elegant sound of cascading cleans to a heavy, “Burn”-inducing bath of overdrive that will satisfy the most demanding gainiac. Three-way toggle on the upper horn to switch between bridge, bridge and neck, and neck pickups as well as two volumes and two tones to control each. Other features include a Harmonica bridge and stopbar tailpiece, oversized strap buttons, and Keystone tuning machines.
The SA-126 Special is available in 4 finishes. Tobacco Sunburst with gold hardware, Transparent Purple with chrome hardware, and Matte Army Drab as well as Stealth Black with black hardware. Finally, it also comes with the SA126 Hardshell case wrapped in ivory vinyl and featuring a blue crushed velvet interior.
