5AR4 (same as GZ34) Rectifier tube
Common rectifier tube used in high power amps that use a rectifier such as the Fender 40 watt and Vox AC-30 amplifiers. Common to more powerful tube amps, like the latest Fender Super Reverb amps and the Vox AC30 (or Matchless copies). Can be used to replace a 5U4 or 5Y3 and will give a faster, more dynamic tonal result. This rectifier has a rise time of 300-400 volts which is about half that of a 5U4. They work great in amps such as the Mesa Rectifier series which uses the 5U4. Ideal if you want a tighter feel and response than stock rectifiers while maintaining the feel and compression character of a vacuum rectifier on the solid-state setting.
