Dave Friedman teamed up with Jerry Cantrell and captured the Alice In Chains guitarist's iconic tone and ferocity in the Friedman JJ-100 - Cantrell's very first signature amp. The JJ-100 was an instant success. Not ones to leave a good thing alone, they decided to package all that punishing sound and grind it into a 20-watt stage-friendly monster. The JJ-Junior still gives you the same EL-powered 2-channel sound that has carved out a legendary place in rock. All the saturated and complex harmonics are still hiding inside, along with the AC30 type cleans. At 20 watts, the JJ-Junior allows you to get on stage, in the studio or in a jam session with complete confidence.
Jerry and Dave spent years perfecting the “JJ” sound. Now you can experience the same tonal experience, in a smaller package, without sacrificing the attention to detail in every Friedman amplifier.
The JJ Junior features internal charging and a simulated XLR output in the cabin. By comparing this analog circuit to some of the most complex computer IRs, Dave achieved a direct output that you can proudly send to the front of the house or use in the studio. The JJ Junior also allows you to play "silently", meaning you can play the amp safely WITHOUT having a speaker connected. The XLR output includes speaker cone, level and center/edge simulation switches.
The JJ Junior has been specially designed to support pedals well, particularly boosts, ODs, phasers, flangers, tremolos and wahs. The ultra-transparent buffered serial effects loop supports time-based effects pedals and rack units alike. This is the exact same effects loop that Friedman uses on all of his amplifiers, including the legendary BE-100. The main cabinet features a beautiful black Tolex, with Baltic Birch construction and the same grille cloth used on the original JJ-100.
