Introduced in 1974 and produced for over 14 years, Roland's Space Echo RE-201 is one of the most legendary and sought-after effects units in music history. Known for its distinctive rhythmic echo sounds, warm character and highly playable sonic quirks, this tape classic has continued to inspire musicians, producers and audio mixers for over four decades.
The RE-2 integrates the full sonic character of the RE-201 into BOSS's popular compact pedal format for the first time. An 11-position mode dial provides access to three virtual tape heads with or without spring reverb, and users can balance the echo/reverb mix with independent level knobs. The RE-2 also offers powerful features such as Wow & Flutter control, extended echo time, selectable carry, stereo I/O, tape tempo, external control support, and more. Every behavior of the RE-201 is precisely reproduced, such as the gradual pitch change that occurs with the repeat rate settings and the uncontrollable feedback that occurs when you maximize the Intensity knob. And with the expressive Wow & Flutter control, you can evoke all the natural modulation characteristics that are essential to the Space Echo sound.
Designed for modern guitarists
The RE-2 takes the Space Echo experience further with versatile features for today's music. Echo time has been doubled and tape-tempo control is supported, and there's a cool Twist function for creating evocative special effects as you play. For unprocessed sound, you can choose between the warm, fat tone of the RE-201 preamp or a clean signal without any processing. Full stereo I/O is available and it is possible to cut the unprocessed signal for parallel effects setups and studio use. The RE-2 also supports extensive control via external footswitches or an expression pedal, including continuous pedal control of multiple panel functions at once.
