Nearly 15 years after their creation, Marshall MG continues to establish itself in the world of rock and even beyond. And that’s not without (good) reasons!

A success which, indeed, is not by chance. Small or big power, with or without onboard effects, we find the best of the brand even if there is not the shadow of a tube in these amps. So what ? At least, we don't break our backs wearing them and we gain in robustness without sacrificing anything in sound quality. From 10 watts to 100 watts, without forgetting the little nomad MG2, we find the same quality of sound available for diverse uses.

The big novelty of this range which has largely proven itself is the name CFX, an acronym for Carbon Fiber to designate the carbon fiber which constitutes the ultra-strong coating of these amps, and FX which, as everyone knows, leaves hear that these amps have built-in effects. And, in this case, the choice is wide with chorus, delay, phasing and flanger, not to mention digital reverb and three-band equalization.

Forward, all!

But forget about these general considerations and let's see what these amps are worth. Even though Marshall is known for its coarse grain, clean sound is possible! In particular thanks to the equalization which allows you to effectively control the frequencies that you want to attenuate or boost in order to compensate for any possible inadequacies of your guitar. You just have to push the beast to realize that there is bad stuff inside, and plenty to do under the pedal. With single coils, the clean sound is quite flattering, and funky guitarists will be able to riff as much as they want. It still feels the appeal of the solo, the presence of the mediums is there to bear witness to this. But above all, metalheads, if they use guitars equipped with EMG or large Seymour, will be able to benefit from a very fat sound, close to that of their favorite groups.

A distinctive sound.

In saturation mode, the serious things begin. The gain is very regular, which makes adjustments on the fly easy, but quickly goes into big overdrive on simple demand! By playing the master volume while using equalization just as precise as that of the Clean channel, we finally border on nirvana (with or without pun, it depends), that is to say the typical sound Marshall: heavy, very heavy, powerful, even deafening. On combo format models, the speakers fully play their role, with lots of dynamics, and never shy away from the task.

From memory.

However, this beautiful raw energy of formwork removal is not achieved at the expense of the subtlety offered by on-board electronics today. Because these MGs offer the possibility of recording, in memories provided for this purpose, each of the settings of each of the buttons which will thus be saved and recalled in their current state at any time. And this, on the four available channels. This is really practical in a stage setup, especially if you adopt the Stompware pedalboard, thus avoiding having to let go of your guitar to switch from one memorized setting to another.

A vast choice.

To summarize, the Marshall MG range offers a vast choice to guitarists looking for an amp powerful enough to play in rehearsal or in concert without being taken over by the main console. Or to those looking for a home amp for daily work who will appreciate, in particular, the line/MP3 and headphone outputs with HP emulation. And even if the MGs have obviously been designed to express themselves fully in saturation mode, they know how to play with finesse thanks to their numerous gain and equalization adjustment possibilities which will not fail to surprise with their versatility.
