In just a few short years, Randy Rhoads revolutionized the art of rock 'n' roll guitar, blending legato passages and fluid, classically inspired melodies with blistering, violin-like leads and overdriven riffs. One of the most essential components of that captivating sound was the MXR Distortion+: Randy harnessed its raw energy to slam his high-gain amplifier with a torrent of harmonics, creating the signature sound that would leave an indelible mark on music history forever.
We celebrate his monumental legacy with this recreation of his personal MXR Distortion+. For the first time in 42 years, the Rhoads family opened up Randy’s pedalboard to the MXR design team at the Musonia School of Music, the family’s music school in Los Angeles. It was there that the MXR team wrote a historic chapter: the team carefully opened the pedalboard, meticulously inspecting and documenting everything they could about this rock 'n' roll artifact. The engineers meticulously spec’d out Randy’s vintage Distortion+, with direct input from his sister Kathy Rhoads, and created this signature model to replicate the same overdriven tones found on Randy’s most beloved tracks.
Inspired by the supersonic jet he rode while touring with Ozzy Osbourne, Randy designed a Flying V-style guitar with a white finish and pinstripes. This iconic instrument serves as the inspiration for this special edition MXR Randy Rhoads Distortion+. An exclusive collector's booklet is included.
