In a world of perfect digital octaves, we chose to look back.
The Double Dragon Lo-Fi Octave Device relies on 40 to 50-year-old analog octave-division technologies — the same ones that gave birth to classics like the MXR Blue Box, the DOD Octoplus, the Boss OC-2, the Ibanez OT10, and even the Electro-Harmonix Micro Synth.
Before DSP. Before extreme precision. Just pure analog warmth.
Play single notes and you get a riff machine. Play chords and the circuit starts to hesitate, glitch, and fight against itself — creating something new.
It doesn’t try to replicate you perfectly — it plays with you.
It’s alive.
THE SOUND
The Double Dragon is a monophonic analog octave effect (down and up).
- Low Octave (OCT−): the foundation of the sound — thick, analog, with the typical behavior that made these circuits legendary.
- High Octave (OCT+): a powerful bonus — an octave-up distortion somewhere between an Octavia and a Superfuzz. Gritty, usable, with a midrange that cuts through the mix.
Engage the Double Dragon and you’ll instantly start playing riffs. Your guitar takes on an enormous dimension, filling the space as if you were multiple musicians.
A MILESTONE
This is the first octave pedal in the history of JHS Pedals. Octave fuzzes existed in their lineup before, but never a truly convincing sub-octave circuit — until now.
Weird, wild, lo-fi. And perfectly intentional.
FOR WHOM?
- Riff lovers
- Led Zeppelin fans who want that guitar + bass weight
- Fans of The White Stripes, Jimi Hendrix, Rage Against the Machine, Muse, Royal Blood
- Bassists who love the behavior of a vintage OC-2
- Creative musicians who want something other than digital perfection
CONTROLS
- VOLUME: master volume with boost capability (can be used as an always-on preamp)
- DRY: blends the clean signal with the octaves
-
- Max = recommended starting point
- Min = 100% wet for glitch/vintage synth textures
- OCT−: level of the low octave
- OCT+: level of the high octave + distortion (activated by the right footswitch)
Left footswitch: ON/OFF
Right footswitch: OCT+ activation
The main effect must be engaged to use the OCT+ (intentional design).
For octave-up only: engage OCT+ and turn down OCT−.
PAIRS WELL WITH
- Overdrive after (especially Ibanez Tube Screamer style)
- Fuzz after for total chaos
- Pitch vibrato for a more synthetic rendering
Tracking imperfections become even more interesting when combined with other effects.
