If you want classic analog handling but don't want to skimp on superior digital effects and studio-quality mic preamps, the SX2442FX is your new best friend. This 16 mic input, 8 stereo input, and 4 bus mixer gives you enough freedom to handle anything from a graduation speech to a small orchestra.
Each of the SX2442FXs 16 mic inputs connects to our world-renowned studio-quality XENYX mic preamps. They are legendary for their high ceiling height, warm natural timbre and complete lack of background noise. Plug in a large-diaphragm condenser mic and listen to a voice to hear the rich detail and spaciousness of the XENYX. Plug in a dynamic mic and insert it into a bass drum to assess the body height.
Some manufacturers make what they call 24-input mixers that count things like CD/TAPE IN as an input. But the SX2442FX actually gives you sixteen honest-to-goodness mono channels and eight stereo channels, allowing you to easily accommodate a variety of studio or live performance setups. You can connect up to 16 microphones or other mono instruments and up to four stereo instruments (keyboards or sound modules, for example).
You can combine these inputs into four different submixes (we call them buses). This allows you to mix multiple channels: all the mics in a drum set or all the backing vocalists in a drum group or backing vocal group are mic'd on a single fader, which is easier to adjust for the entire mix that goes to the audio speakers. You can also use one or more of the sub-mix buses to create custom monitoring mixes for the difficult members of your group (More me! More me! More me!).
Whether you need to add a touch of reverb or delay to a live singer's mic or turn a difficult studio session into psychedelic quicksand, the SX2442FX has you covered. We gave this mixer two independent 24-bit stereo effects processors with an impressive 99 presets to deliver the perfect sonic garnish. Sure, they're great for live sound, but I have a lot of cool plug-ins for recording, we can hear some of you saying. The truth is, you can never have too much. And when you hear how good the SX2442FXs FX are, you might want to give your overworked CPU a rest.
Naturally, we've given you a whole range of creative effects like reverb, chorus, flanger, delay and pitch shifter sounds, as well as mind-blowing multi-effects to take your sound out into the world. But you also get problem-solving workhorses like compression and gating plus end effects like Ultramizer, Ultrabass and Exciter that can put a PA or studio mix over the top. And since there are two processors, you can select two separate effects, then apply one or both to channels 1-20 compression for vocalist, reverb for vocalist and snare, for example...
A good thing to have on your side when you start reaching for those channel EQ knobs. In concert or in the studio.
Think softer, smoother, more musical EQ like that found on classic British consoles of the 60s and 70s. A single malt scotch instead of Everclear. Homemade cherry cobbler instead of artificial cherry lollipop. The distinct configuration of British EQs with wider curves and lower Q and harmonic phase characteristics allows you to add or subtract EQs more generously than with conventional EQ circuits. When you add mid-bass, you get a firmer sound instead of an unpleasant buzz. When you remove the high frequencies a little, the treble only takes a hair off instead of being muffled.
All SX2442FX mono channels have low and high shelves as well as a sweepable midrange that you can move from 100 Hz to 8 kHz. Think of it as your traveling English convenience store.
