Weighing just under 3 lbs, the BOSS Katana-Mini is a portable combo amplifier for electric guitars that aims to deliver powerful sound in a compact, portable package. The amplifier provides three tonal characters—Brown, Crunch, and Clean. Brown is a sound modeled after Boss' Waza line of amplifiers, offering high gain tones and plenty of harmonics. Crunch gives you overdrive suitable for rock and blues, while clean offers pristine tones and plenty of dynamic response.
The amp's traditional three-band tone stack lets you adjust your timbre in a way that's familiar and aurally pleasing. Driving 7W through its 1x4" speaker, the Katana-Mini uses a multi-stage analog gain circuit and also provides tape-style delay with time and level controls. Discreet repeats and a fuzzier ambience of reverb type are possible in this effects section.
On the back of the amplifier you'll find a 3.5mm auxiliary input for jamming music from smartphones or other suitable devices, and you'll also come across a 3.5mm headphone jack useful for practicing and recording in silence without mic for a mixing desk or recording interface. This release sports a speaker voicing to emulate the sound of miking from a speaker on stage. You'll also find the battery panel, where you can power the amp with 6 AA batteries for up to nine hours at a time. An AC adapter is available separately.
