Description
The Electro Harmonix Op-Amp Big Muff is a reissue of a classic fuzz pedal from the 1970s. It aims to give you the iconic and enduring distortion of that era. Three main controls are at your disposal including a volume knob for the overall level, a tone knob for shaping your tone, and of course the fuzz knob with which you can introduce gentle distortion into your signal.
The original pedal relied on op amps rather than transistors to achieve its characteristic needled tone. This pedal aims to recreate this original V4 circuit as closely as possible while adding a few modifications to the design. For example, the tone switch, which completely removes the tone knob from the circuit, no longer affects your overall output level. This is a change from previous iterations.
The Op-Amp Big Muff Pi uses a true bypass circuit, to keep your sound intact when bypassed. The pedal comes with a 9V battery, which can be replaced by unscrewing the backplate and accessing the battery there. It also works with a 9V AC power adapter, available separately.
Main features at a glance
Volume Knob: This adjusts the overall output level.
Fuzz Knob: This knob adjusts the amount of sustain and distortion.
Tone Knob: This control facilitates a range of sounds, from sharp highs to deep bass. As you turn the knob clockwise, the treble increases and the bass decreases.
Tone Switch: This switch removes or adds tone control from the circuit. This switch has been improved over the original Op-Amp Big Muff, as now the volume remains the same in both positions. Bypass/Engage
Footswitch: The Footswitch toggles between effect and bypass modes.
