The Blues Bender PAC features the "Patented Acoustic Hoods" of the Marine Band harmonica, a favorite of serious players since 1896. Originally patented by Jacob Hohner in 1897, the special shape of the hood increases the volume of enclosed air between the reeds and the cover plates which, when vibrated and ventilated through the special side openings, allows greater volume and projection. The Blues Bender PAC features thicker than normal reed plates for consistent sound. It is extremely airtight between the mouthpiece and reed plates, making it easier to bend notes and facilitate expressive playing.
