The AMP MODE Boost is a MOSFET transistor boost and is the exact same circuit found in our best-selling PRISM preamp! Ask anyone who owns a PRISM and they will probably tell you that their favorite PRISM mode is AMP MODE.
Since we launched PRISM in 2016, we have been inundated with requests to offer a standalone product based on PRISM's AMP MODE. You asked and we listened!
AMPLIFIER MODE OVERVIEW
The AMP MODE circuit is based on a MOSFET transistor which is a very popular type of transistor to use for boost circuits because it has many "amp-like" characteristics when clipping in etc. This circuit can, however, have disadvantages.
Several very popular MOSFET boost circuits on the market emit a very noticeable crackling sound when turning their boost knobs. We fixed this issue in AMP MODE so that it is completely silent when the boost knob is turned and delivers nothing but an incredibly loud, harmonic-rich boost!
Use AMP MODE as a preamp for your overall signal, as a boost to push an overdrive pedal even further into saturation, or as a post overdrive boost to clarify and move your guitar forward in the mix! AMP MODE features 9-18V operation, true bypass switching, and a small footprint with top-mounted outlets!
Tonic ADVICE!
"One of the most powerful aspects of AMP MODE is its ability to stack with other pedals as well as itself! For years I used two MOSFET boosts on my pedalboard with a Klon between them I used one of the boosts as an always-on boost, and added a second boost when I wanted an overdriven rhythm sound. Finally, when I wanted an overdriven lead sound, I kicked on. the Klon and the two boosts with the Klon gave me a super articulate and saturated lead sound. -Brad Jackson
ENHANCED CONTROL
The single boost control sets the overall boost of the AMP MODE. AMP MODE is a true boost in that when the boost control is fully counterclockwise it does not amplify your signal, rather it acts as a unity gain buffer that boosts the signal of your guitar to prevent loss of tone when running long cables, etc. .
DC INPUT
AMP MODE can safely operate from 9V to 18V DC (center negative). Running it at 18V will give increased headroom and dynamic response. Do NOT exceed 18 V!
BYPASS SWITCH
The BYPASS SWITCH is a true mechanical bypass switch.
