The Meinl Sonic Energy solid kalimba is a melodic instrument with an exceptional sound and unique characteristics in both tone and design. Play beautiful melodies thanks to its 17 notes in the C major scale. Made from high-quality sapele wood.
The kalimba comes with a case to protect it from scratches and other damage. A microfiber cloth and a linen bag are also provided to clean your kalimba and then store it safely. In addition, a tuning hammer is included should you wish to retune it.
The kalimba originates from Africa. It is an ancestral instrument, also known as a "mbira," "sansa," or simply a "thumb piano." It consists of metal tines placed on a wooden sound box, which are plucked with the thumbs to produce a metallic, crystalline sound.

The instrument body
The body of these instruments, whether solid or hollow, amplifies the sounds produced by the tines.
Some of our kalimbas feature a sound hole which, much like that of an acoustic guitar, helps to naturally diffuse the sound.
Solid kalimbas are known for their sturdy and compact design, as well as for their rich and warm tone.
Wah-wah kalimbas add a new dimension to the sound by allowing the musician to modulate the frequency emitted by the instrument, thereby creating different sounds, similar to a guitar wah-wah pedal.
The smooth edges and surface of the body offer a pleasant feel and an elegant appearance, particularly thanks to the detailed engravings on our sound-hole kalimbas.
Exceptional craftsmanship
These kalimbas are crafted with exceptional care from premium tonewoods, including maple/acacia blends, mahogany, and maple.
The wood is finished with a stain that highlights the natural grain for a refined and high-end look.
We use solid chrome-plated steel for the tines, which produces a pure and resonant sound. These tines are pre-tuned to C major.
