Although Eric Johnson is primarily known as a Strat® player, he has always played humbucker-equipped guitars as well. After acquiring a new 1959 Gibson® Les Paul® reissue, Eric asked if it was possible to make it sound like an old Gretsch® Country Gentleman. DiMarzio replied: "No problem!" The pickups they designed are exact replacements for standard-size humbuckers. They offer a bright sound and excellent presence without lacking body. When Eric tried them out, he said they sounded almost as clear as Strat® pickups. He was surprised by how they handled high distortion, as even with saturation, the sound remained precise and clean. The EJ Custom™ pickup is available with exposed coils in all standard DiMarzio® colors and with optional nickel-plated or unplated covers.
