The SOLO is the newest addition to the Pro Co family of effect pedals. While it is housed in the same rugged, indestructible steel enclosure that has become the hallmark of Pro Co pedals, the SOLO distinguishes itself from the RAT series in many ways, beyond just its design. With its immense palette of sounds, its three selectable "hot, melt, and burn" modes, and its highly interactive "scoop" and "tone" controls, the SOLO could well become the most versatile pedal in your arsenal.
Don't let the name fool you: the 100% analog SOLO is far from a one-trick pony. It excels at both lead and rhythm playing and adapts to a wide variety of amplifiers and guitars. Capable of producing smooth, mellow, and warm sounds at low gain, all the way to deliciously aggressive and devastating high-gain tones, the SOLO remains remarkably faithful to the most important sound: yours and your guitar's. And speaking of fidelity to your guitar's sound, the true-bypass system ensures zero coloration when the pedal is disengaged.
Even at the highest gain settings, the SOLO maintains an extremely warm, precise, and touch-sensitive tone, reminiscent of a tube amp. Complex chords ring out with clarity, and solos have impeccable sustain. Roll back the volume and the sound cleans up, just like a good tube amp.
The SOLO uses three pairs of carefully matched (or rather, carefully mismatched) clipping diodes to produce asymmetrical clipping. These three pairs are accessible via the "hot, melt, burn" selector switch. The resulting effect is clipping that is very similar to that of a tube amp going into natural distortion.
Pro Co Sound also offers several other highly regarded effects, including the popular RAT2, Turbo RAT, You Dirty RAT, and Deucetone. Each effect has its own unique sonic signature.
