Tape delay was invented in the late 1940s when Les Paul put together two Ampex Model 200A tape machines. A little later, in 1953, Ray Butts invented the Echosonic, the first true tape delay. It was followed by Mike Battle's Echoplex EP-1 in 1961 and Roland's Space Echo in 1974. The JHS Pedals 3 Series Tape Delay is a simplified and faithful return to those classic units. The Mix control allows you to control the amount of clean signal mixed with the processed (delayed) signal (on the original unit, this setting was called Echo Volume). The Tape Speed control simulates the speeding up and slowing down of the RE-201 tape motor and determines the length of the delay effect. The Repeats control takes you from one repeat to multiple repeats, reminiscent of writing a sound onto the tape loop, with a loss of fidelity each time. Finally, when the Flutter toggle is engaged (up position), it replicates the wear and tear of a tape machine's mechanical parts. This produces the slight modulations, warbles, and shimmers in the delay echo path that so many musicians seek.
CONTROLS
MIX - Controls the amount of clean signal mixed with the processed (delayed) signal. Left is less processed signal. Right is more processed signal.
TAPE SPEED - Controls the length of the delay effect from 15ms to 950ms.
REPEATS - Controls the number of repeats after each play. Left is less. Right is more.
FLUTTER - The switch down produces a standard effect. The switch up produces a slight modulation reminiscent of vintage pedals with mechanical wear.
JACKS
INPUT - 1/4" jack on the right side of the pedal.
OUTPUT - 1/4" jack on the left side of the pedal.
POWER - Requires 9V DC negative center power and consumes 65mA. Do not use more than 9V DC. You will void your warranty.
