Our two-channel gray monster starts with classic British-inspired rhythm sounds in Gain I mode. Gain II launches into a tight, aggressive high-gain American grind, perfect for progressive and extended-range players. Aimed at gain junkies, the VX The Kraken pushes all the limits of what you can expect from a “small” amp. It will even travel as hand luggage when you fly.
Two footswitchable channels
Gain I begins with British-inspired dynamism; lots of hair and friendly mids to suit everything from classic rock to metal. Gain II is tighter and more aggressive with a more modern midrange voice.
Bass focus switch
It's much more than a bass equalizer. It operates in the power section of the amp, delivering either tighter, more focused bass, or conversely, looser, more resonant bass depending on your needs and tastes.
Low consumption and asymmetric
There are two ways to tame the beast. The front panel switch offers a low consumption mode of around 9 watts. Additionally, you can use the asymmetrical mode which switches to either power valve (use them evenly to maintain roughly equal wear). Low consumption and asymmetrical take you below 2 watts RMS.
Assignable and dual master volume
Assign Master I to Gain I and Master II to Gain II when changing channels...or leave the masters completely independent to switch between them at will, no matter which channel you're using. Your choice!
Flexible foot control
Two channels, two masters plus your effects loop. Switch it however you want using the supplied footswitches or, like Rabea, via the remote jacks on your pedal switching system.
6L6 or EL34 power valves
You can choose to use EL34 or 6L6 power valves. They offer subtly different tonal characteristics in terms of power stage overdrive as well as overall frequency response. Notice we said subtle! There is a bias range switch to get you in the right direction, but fine-tuning the bias is also advised whenever you change power valves.
